CEA - a voice in education
April 3, 2008
The Community Educators Association (CEA) has worked for the students and staff of the Blue Springs School District since it’s inception during the 1970s. Under the leadership of Superintendent Gale T. Bartow, the CEA was created to bring the employees of the district together for the benefit of students. The CEA currently has more than 800 local members and is a cross section of staff in the district. The purpose of this organization is to foster high professional standards, inspire cooperative professional development of all members and to promote the advancement of the profession and educational programs which benefit the children of the community. Members of CEA have the opportunity to serve on a number of committees that directly impact our schools and community. Members annually hold blood drives for the Community Blood Bank and raise funds for student scholarships. Over $4,200 will be awarded this year to seniors across the district from CEA. In addition, CEA representatives have a valued voice in school district decisions. Members are represented on the Salary and Welfare Committee, the Legislative Issues Committee, the Career Ladder Committee, and are present for both Board of Education work sessions and meetings. “Members of CEA all have one thing in common, they care about the district and keep student success as the focus of all decisions,” says CEA president Lynda Elton. “CEA is the voice of all of the people that work for the Blue Springs School District, we represent everyone and we know that with open communication we can continue to provide the best learning opportunities for students.”
