Chinese I
This course teaches the fundamentals of Mandarin Chinese and introduces the cultures of the Chinese-speaking people. It emphasizes the basic skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing; the use of practical vocabulary (greetings, school, leisure activities, family, food); and elementary grammar. Students will listen to and tell stories, write short creative stories, and develop reading skills. Because of the complexity of the written and spoken language, a higher level of dedication and time outside of class are required. Active class participation is essential. Because this class emphasizes communication, regular attendance is required.
