District secures two grants
April 3, 2008
The Blue Springs School District was recently awarded two Title II, Part B, Mathematics and Science Partnership Program Grants in collaboration with the Center School District, Hickman Mills School District and Rockhurst University. Each 3-year grant will provide over $1.4 million to support teacher training during two-week summer institutes and follow-up sessions throughout the year. The Missouri Grade 6-12 Math Initiative will enable 30 middle and high school math teachers to enhance their understanding of advanced math concepts and teaching strategies in support of student learning. The Missouri K-6 Science Initiative will enable 50 elementary teachers to gain a deep understanding of science focusing on the 5E Learning Cycle, inquiry-based instruction, and the integration of science with literacy and technology. Teachers will become “elementary science leaders” for their respective schools and will actively share content knowledge and pedagogy with their colleagues. Other partners in this effort are Kansas City Public Television and the Kansas City Regional Professional Development Center.
