Blue Springs Freshman Center Project Lead The Way Teacher Dave Hosick has been chosen to receive a Society of Manufacturing Engineers Education Foundation Building the Future Award. Hosick, who teaches Introduction to Engineering Design and Draw at the Freshman Center, was one of 15 winners nationally who will receive a $1,000 unrestricted cash award, and the 3M company will donate an Interactive Classroom Presentation System for the winner’s classroom. Dave, his wife and a district representative will also receive an all-expense-paid trip to St. Paul, Minnesota, for the awards presentation on April 11. Criteria for the award includes: n Involvement with the Project Lead The Way program n Exemplary educational accom-plishments beyond the classroom that provide a model of excellence for the profession n Engaging presence that inspires and motivates students n Exceptional instructional practices as demonstrated by increased student learning. The Building the Future Awards program provides public recognition and financial rewards to secondary schoolteachers, principals, and other educational professionals who are furthering excellence in engineering education through the Project Lead The Way program. By honoring outstanding educators, the Building the Future Awards program strives to attract, motivate and reward the achievements of talented educators and attract youth to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
