Eligibility Requirements 

Student must have been promoted to a higher grade or a higher level in special education at the close of the previous year.

The student is ineligible the following semester if he or she fails more than two subjects or fails to make standard progress in special education.

Students must present on or before the above listed beginning dates to participate:

 

Completed Certificate of Participation form which includes:

          A. A physical issued on or after February 1 of the previous school year signed by a physician, advanced nurse practitioner in written collaborative practice with a physician, or a certified physician’s assistant in collaboration with a sponsoring physician stating that the individual is physically able to participate in athletic practices and contests of his/her school.

         B. Signed permission by the student’s parents or guardian granting permission for the student to participate in interscholastic athletics.

Intramural Activities

 

                                        

 

 

The intramural program at Moreland Ridge Middle School is designed to give all participants an opportunity to enjoy themselves in an athletic and educational environment. Every student who signs up will participate in the program. All intramurals are held before or after school. Students must provide their own transportation. Additional information will be provided to students by the intramural sponsor.

Clubs and Activities

 

                              

 

 

 

      ART CLUB

Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade submit an application and a piece of art to become an Art Club member. Members are selected by talent and the application process, and they must show a sincere desire to make a difference through art. Art Club members create art pieces that they would not be able to do in a regular classroom setting, such as oil painting, batiking, pottery wheel work and coiling.

COMPUTER CLUB

The MRMS Computer Club is open to students in any grade at Moreland Ridge. It meets twice a month from the end of September through April. Computer Club members work with presentation software, design and type the school musical program, and enjoy playing computer games.

 
Forensics

Students in 7th and 8th grade may audition for and become a part of the Forensics Team (speech and drama.) Students compete with other schools for trophies and medals in such activities as acting, pantomime, speech presentation, dramatic and humorous interpretation, and improvisational duets.

 

    HONOR CHOIR

The Moreland Ridge Honor Choir is an auditioned choir designed for 7th and 8th grade boys and girls who want an opportunity to sing challenging music. Honor Choir participates in various state-level competitions and World's of Fun Music Festival. Rehearsals are Mondays after school, and section rehearsals occur on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

 

    HUSKY AMBASSADORS

Husky Ambassadors is an organization in which Moreland Ridge students act as ambassadors to new students. Husky Ambassadors are students who are kind, friendly, caring, positive role models, and have good attendance and grades. Duties include giving a tour of the school, helping new students with his or her locker, introducing new students to classmates, and escorting new students to lunch and eating with them for one week.

 

    HUSKY VISION

The Husky Vision crew plans, films, and edits the productions for our school-wide broadcasting system. These productions include our school announcements in a creative format and are broadcast to the classrooms. Students meet on Wednesday mornings from 7:15-7:55 a.m. Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade may complete a Husky Vision application at the beginning of first semester.

 

 

    IDITAROD (SCHOOL NEWSPAPER)

Student reporters publish an 8-page newsletter 4 to 5 times a year. Students work on a volunteer basis, and meetings are posted over the school-wide broadcast.

 

    JAZZ BAND

Any 7th or 8th grade band student may audition for a part in the Jazz Band. Auditions are held in the fall, and the group performs throughout the entire school year at MRMS, throughout Blue Springs, and in various state-level competitions.

 

    MATH CLUB

Math Club is a second-semester club open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.  Activities include games such as Yahtzee, Jeopardy, Contig, Tangrams, Brain Teasers, board races, and even a bowling outing at the end of the season! The MRMS Math Club meets every Wednesday at 7:00 a.m. It is a fun way to get together with other students and have “sum” fun!

 

  

    RIDGE READERS BOOK CLUB

This club is open to all students. Ridge Readers Book Club meets on the first and third Wednesdays from 2:45-4:15 p.m. in the library media center. Activities include reading a wide variety of books, literacy activities, book discussions, reading promotions, and refreshments.     SCHOLAR BOWL

The MRMS Scholar Bowl Team is looking for knowledgeable 7th and 8th graders to represent the school in regional competitions during February and March. Tryouts for this team will be held on announced dates before and after school in mid-December. Team members will be expected to attend weekly practices beginning in January and running through the end of the competition season in March.

 

    SCIENCE CLUB

Any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade students interested in broadening their exposure to science will meet on a monthly basis. Eighth grade students also have an opportunity to compete in Science Olympiad, which is an interscholastic competition.

    Sensational Science Fair Fanatics

Any student at MRMS can be a member of this club. The students follow the scientific process to develop a science fair project of their choice. The club meets September through January.

    SHOW CHOIR

The Moreland Ridge Show Choir is an auditioned choir designed  for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys and girls who want an opportunity to sing and dance. Rehearsals are Wednesday and Friday mornings, and they perform at MRMS school concerts. 

 

    STRATEGIZERS

The MRMS Strategizers is a strategy game competition team open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys and girls in good academic standing. Strategizer members sharpen their problem solving and sportsmanship skills through the playing of multi-national strategy games (games that involve no elements of chance -- no dice, no cards) such as Chess, Hasami Shogi, Roundabouts, Nine Men's Morris, Mancala, and others. The team practices every Thursday morning from mid-October through March to prepare to compete in tournaments against other Strategizer teams around the area.

 

    STUDENT COUNCIL
Student Council consists of elected 6th, 7th, and 8th grade members that are role models who maintain responsibility for grades, citizenship, behavior, and attendance. Members meet weekly to set building goals, plan school spirit activities, organize building and community service projects, and participate in leadership workshops.

    YEARBOOK

Students from 6th, 7th and 8th grades comprise the yearbook staff. The group meets either before or after school, throughout the entire school year, to create the MRMS yearbook. The staff is selected through an application process in the fall.
