 My Background

A Chinese Proverb exemplifies my philosophy of teaching:
I hear and   forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand.

My student teaching days in Tulsa at Edison High School were a marvelous opportunity to work under "Dobe". He was a marvelous mathematician and was very effective in motivating his mathematic students to reach for the stars. My licensed teaching days started at Bishop Kelley High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This college prep high school was a wonderful opportunity to start my first seven years in an educational institution that exemplified excellence with collaborative coworkers and committed administrators that were educators and unified. St. John de la Salle’s philosophy was that all children were entitled to a quality educational. Imagine that!  I was hired at Blue Springs High School after an  extended sabbatical. I was excited to return to the classroom in the commuity that my family lives when my daughters were all in school. Soon, I  will be the only one from my family still attends BSHS.

 Plan: First Period

ACT Math Prep: Fifth Period

Students have the opportunity to review English, math and the science with authentic ACT materials in this semester long elective course. It is crucial that students have the prerequisite of geometry due to the nature of the ACT math test that has 38% of the math portion is geometry. The goal of this course is to review math topics most commonly on the ACT math test, become familiar with the format of the ACT exam, practice pacing as well as strategies that have been effective to increase math skills and the student's score on the ACT Exam. The student does receive a grade for each portion on the appropriate grading session. The English grade, math grade and science grade are averaged to provide the semester grade for a student.
