Students participate in National FFA Week

Blue Springs and Blue Springs South High School students who are members of the National FFA Organization participated in several activities to celebrate National FFA Week February 23-27. FFA students in Erica Thieman’s classes did everything from serving breakfast to roller skating to entertaining a visit from Blue Springs Mayor Carson Ross, who signed a proclamation declaring FFA Week in the city. Students in FFA study a variety of topics, from veterinary medicine to plant sciences. "A lot of people think Future Farmers of America when they think of FFA, but now kids are learning a wide variety of topics, not just ones related specifically to farming," said Agricultural Sciences teacher Erica Thieman. "Being a part of FFA Week was a great opportunity for our students."

Blue Springs currently has 150 FFA members in its two high schools and the Freshman Center. There are currently 507,763 FFA members nationally in 7,439 chapters.
