Blue Springs R-IV School District – Substitute Teaching Application Process
Substitute teachers are an important part of the team in the Blue Springs School District: they assist the district in continuing the effective educational process provided by our highly qualified teaching staff while staff members are receiving additional professional development or absent from their position for another reason. We strive to provide a strong pool of qualified substitute teachers for these occurrences.
Please see the information below for the answers to your questions regarding substitute teachers in Blue Springs. If you are unable to find the answer you need, please contact Stephanie Marker, by e-mail or at 816-224-1300.
The 2012-13 substitute teacher application will be available July 2, 2012.
Requirements
To be a substitute, you must have a minimum of 60 college hours and hold a substitute teaching certificate from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). You can apply for the substitute certificate through the DESE Web site. (Exception: If you are a teacher certified in the state of Missouri you do not need a substitute certificate).
Applying
You must first complete the application online through the Blue Springs School District Application website (Look for the job posting titled "Substitute Teacher" on the following page: Blue Springs R-IV Online Application). After applying to be considered to substitute in our district, your application will be reviewed by Department of Human Resources personnel. If you are selected to join the substitute list you will be invited to come in for an interview and then to complete paperwork.
Items Needed: Two forms of ID (passport or driver’s license and social security card or birth certificate)
Fingerprint Background Check Information
The Department of Education requires that a fingerprint background check be done on all new substitutes. You can schedule your fingerprinting appointment online at www.ibtfingerprint.com using MO920320Z for your ORI number and 048068 for your OCA number. We can also schedule your appointment for you when you come to our office to complete paperwork. You must provide a money order at the time of the fingerprinting appointment in the amount of $49.45 made payable to L-1 Enrollment Services. (If you have completed a fingerprint background check in the past 12 months you do not need to be fingerprinted again.)
Getting the Call
The Blue Springs School District uses an automated calling system to notify substitutes of job assignments (SmartFindExpress). Once your application has been processed you will need to make a phone call to activate your file and choose a PIN. Then you can access the system by Web or by phone.
Current Substitute Teachers
If you are a current active substitute and have forgotten your PIN, you may retrieve it by clicking on the "Trouble signing in?" link on the SmartFindExpress Web page.
Substitutes must work at least one job during the school year in order to be invited back to the substitute list for the following year. This is consistent with DESE's policy that substitutes must work at least one day in order to have their substitute certificate renewed for the next year. We will mail you a renewal packet in the summer to invite you back to the substitute list.
