Teacher surprised with Milken award

During an all-school assembly this fall a faculty member at BSHS was announced as a winner of the 2007-08 Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award. Sara Crump, Communication Arts teacher at BSHS, was surprised with this news in front of her staff, DESE officials, the Board of Education and more than 1,600 students. This is a great honor for an educator, and the award includes an unrestricted cash prize of $25,000.

Sara had no idea she was being considered for this recognition.
Missouri has participated in the Milken National Educator Award program since 1996. This fall, the Milken Family Foundation will recognize up to 80 outstanding American educators in 48 states and the District of Columbia. The Milken Family Foundation National Educator Awards program provides public recognition and financial rewards to elementary and secondary school teachers, principals and other education professionals who are furthering excellence in education. By honoring outstanding educators, the program strives to attract, develop, motivate and retain talented people to the challenge and adventure of teaching.
