Nine Years of Perfect Scores
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education reported that we have once again received a perfect score on our Annual Performance Report. This is the ninth year in a row that we have received a perfect score. This is determined by a number of factors including student achievement.

BSSD Transportation Director Earns Service Award
Blue Springs School District Director or Transportation Glen McMillian was honored with the Missouri Association of Pupil Transportation (MAPT) Distinguished Service Award. The honor recognizes those with long-standing commitments to the transportation field. McMillian and his transportation team have served the BSSD for 31 exemplary years. Glen has a unique ability to connect drivers with students, parents and teachers while promotiing a spirit of pride, leadership and collaboration.

FFA Members Impress at Camp
Members from the Blue Springs and Blue Springs South FFA Chapter attended the State FFA Leadership Camp in June. The camp sponsored by the Missouri FFA Association was held at Camp Rising Sun. The Institute provided leadership training for over 1,200 high school students. Missouri ranks 4th in the nation with over 24,000 FFA members. Mackenzie Callaway (BSSHS) and Jesica Wells (BSHS) served as camp officers. Katelyn Adams (BSSHS) and Abbey Andrews (BSHS) were recognized as being All-Around Campers. Tabitha Gerstner (BSSHS), Chris Pack (BSHS), and Kodey Springate (BSHS) were all recognized for earning their State FFA leadership pins. 

Blue Springs Among "100 Best Places to Live"
Money Magazine has named Blue Springs one of its "100 Best Places to Live" in its recent issue. The magazine polled readers about what was important when choosing a place to live and they responded with good schools, safe streets, ample job opportunities and affordable housing. Blue Springs was ranked 49th on the list while receiving high marks for its schools and housing markets.

PLTW Students earn national honors
Blue Springs South students Kyle Reece and Trevor Wilson had strong showings in the Technology Student Association (TSA) National Championships in Baltimore. Both students competed in the CAD Engineering with Animation catergory, with Reece earning second place and Wilson sixth place in the nation. Both students are part of the BSSD's Project Lead the Way Program.
The Technology Student Association (TSA) is the only student organization devoted exclusively to the needs of students interested in technology. Open to students enrolled in or who have completed technology education courses, TSA’s membership includes over 150,000 middle and high school students in 2,000 schools spanning 48 states

BSHS Students Earn National Honors
A trio of Blue Springs High School students earned championship honors at 2010 National Speech and Debate Championships in Kansas City. Darius Wilson, a 2010 BSHS graduate, and Austin Groves, a senior at BSHS, placed first in duo interpretation. A.J. Taula, also a 2010 graduate, was named the national champion in poetry.

Dierking Named 2010-11 Teacher of the Year
Blue Springs South High School math teacher Craig Dierking has been chosen the Blue Springs School District 2010-11 Teacher of the Year. Dierking has been with the BSSD 10 years, all at South. He is the BSSHS Department Chair of Mathematics and a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Mr. Dierking describes his teaching philosophy as “My goal as a math teacher is to help begin to understand the complexity of mathematics and to make decisions about their contribution to society for their future by connecting to real world applications.”
Congratulations to Craig Dierking and all 22 exceptional nominees for our 2010-11 Teacher of the Year.
