The Blue Springs School District realizes that the early years of a child's life - conception to kindergarten - provide the critical foundation for success in school and beyond. To reinforce the impact parents have as their child’s first and most influential teacher, the district provides specialized support and resource services through its Parents as Teachers (PAT) program.
Grounded in the latest research, Parents as Teachers, stresses the important role parents play in promoting school readiness and healthy child growth and development. The approach is relationship-based and non-intrusive, and features high quality learning experiences customized to meet the individual needs of each family and child.
Participants benefit from powerful, results-proven curricula, tools, and strategies that are relevant and widely applicable to today’s parents, families, and children, especially those in at-risk or vulnerable circumstances. PAT staff offer practical, effective, free-of-charge assistance; conduct periodic screenings for the early detection of developmental delays and health issues; host fun and engaging family activities; and facilitate parent and group meetings. The PAT program partners with families, day care providers, outreach agencies, and community organizations as a unified voice to integrate intervention services, raise awareness, and shape policy that meets the broad, diverse, and evolving needs of children during their formative years. Ultimately, the PAT program is committed to the cause of educational success through active, knowledgeable, and engaged parent involvement.
