        Substitute teachers are an important part of the team in the Blue Springs School District: they assist the district in continuing the effective educational process provided by our highly qualified teaching staff while staff members are receiving additional professional development or absent from their position for another reason.  We strive to provide a strong pool of qualified substitute teachers for these occurrences.

The 2010-2011 application to substitute teach is now available online.

 

Requirements

To be a substitute, you must have a minimum of 60 college hours and successfully complete an FBI/Highway Patrol Background check.

  

Applying

NEW FOR 2010-11:  The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) now requires all substitutes to apply for their own substitute certificates through the DESE Web site.  The new substitute certificate application system will be available on July 15, 2010.  Substitutes will not be able to work until they have been approved for a substitute certificate through DESE.

  

You must first complete the application online through the Blue Springs School District Application website (Look for the job posting titled "Substitute Teacher").  Blue Springs R-IV Online Application  After applying to be considered to substitute in our district, your application will be reviewed by Department of Human Resources personnel.  If you are selected to join the substitute list you will be contacted to come in to the office to complete paperwork.

Items Needed:

            A copy of your teaching certificate or photo copy of an official transcript 

            Two forms of ID (passport or driver’s license and social security card or birth certificate)

  

Fingerprint Background Check Information

 The Department of Education requires that a fingerprint background check be done on all new substitutes.  You will schedule your fingerprinting appointment when you come to our office to complete paperwork.  You must provide a money order at the time of this appointment in the amount of $52.20 made payable to L-1 Enrollment Services.

        ** If you have completed a fingerprint background check in the past 12 months for another district please provide a copy of your clearance letter.

 

Getting the Call

The Blue Springs School District uses an automated calling system to notify substitutes of job assignments (SmartFindExpress).  Once your application has been processed you will need to make a phone call to activate your file and choose a PIN.  Then you can access the system by Web or by phone.

 

Current Substitute Teachers

If you are a current active substitute and have forgotten your PIN, you may retrieve it by calling the SmartFindExpress system and entering your Social Security Number.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL APPLICANTS

The Blue Springs School District, upon employment, utilizes E-Verify to validate the ability of new employees to work legally in the United States. 

The District will provide the Social Security Administration (SSA) and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with information from each new employee's Form I-9 to confirm work authorization.
